The Pivot Trophy was contested on Tuesday, April 12 between representative teams from the North?Devon Gazette Football League and the Graham Hodgson Insurance Kinglsey League.
Many years ago the area had a well known sports journalist called Ralph Stacey, who wrote under the name of ‘Pivot’, and who was respected throughout the county. As a result of contracting cancer, he sadly passed away at an early age.
Since that time, the North Devon Football League and Kingsley League have competed annually for what is known as the Pivot Trophy, all the proceeds of which go to the Cancer Unit at the North Devon District Hospital.
The match is played alternatively in the North Devon Football League and Kingsley League areas, and this season it was played at Vicarage Field, the home of Torrington AFC, to whom thanks were extended for the use of their ground and facilities.
This year the fixture went all the way to penalties with it finishing 3-3 at the end of play, and it was the side representing the North Devon League that took the trophy home by beating the Kingsley League 5-4 in the shootout.
