PARAGON Leisure Management, operators of Trethorne Hotel and Golf Club in Launceston, have taken control of the day to day operations at Boringdon Park Golf Club in Plympton as of October 1.
Michael Davey, owner of Boringdon Park, and the directors of Paragon, Robin Reip, Jon Grainger, Carole Reip and Justin Austin, see this change as a logical progression resulting from the mutual and beneficial experience of working together over the past ten years.
Paragon’s chairman and director, Robin Reip, sees the benefits in blending two essential sets of skills. He said: "Mike Davey is a highly talented and brave entrepreneur — anybody who can achieve positive results during the recent challenging economic times is a bit special.
“Add to that Paragons extensive experience and eye for detail in the golf and hospitality sector and the chances of success are significantly enhanced."
In particular, Justin Austin and newly appointed head greenkeeper, Chris Desmond, are planning some exciting changes and new initiatives for the 27-hole property, with a view to continuing to improve the quality and all year round playability of both courses.
Justin said: "I have watched Boringdon Park develop over the past five years and always believed there is a unique opportunity to create something very special for Plymouth.
“I am genuinely excited to have the opportunity to be involved in taking the golf course to the next level in its development.”
Boringdon Park enjoys a strong membership of over 700 players, recently enhanced by a doubling of the numbers playing on the nine-hole, shorter estuary course, an attractive alternative for those new to the game or with limited time to play.
The club also enjoys fabulous function, conference and banqueting facilities, with dining space for over 400 guests. Recent events including firework displays, BBQ’s and an Abba Tribute Evening have proved immensely successful and the plans are to build on this success by further promoting the club as a destination venue for dinners, lunches, parties, weddings and business meetings. The club restaurant and bar is also open to non-members.
With Paragon joining forces with Michael Davey, there are certainly exiting times ahead for Boringdon Park Golf Club. For further information please contact the club on 01752 339113.
