LAUNCESTON sailor Sam Sills has been chosen as one of ten Team GB representatives for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics team rehearsal event in Marseille which runs from Sunday, July 9 to Sunday, July 16.

Sills, 30, has steadily worked his way up the ranks in recent years and will compete in the men’s iQFOIL class for his country.

Sills is the only Cornish representative in the line-up which includes several from Dorset and Hampshire.

The test event gives sailors and teams the chance to get their plans in place before next year’s showpiece event, and anyone who impresses is going to give themselves a far better chance when the final squad is named.

Reflecting on being chosen, Sam said: “It means an awful lot to be selected for the test event.

“It’s been a long and difficult journey to get here, and I’m thrilled to have been able to make it to this point.

“It’s probably about 20 years of work! I’ll be trying to bring home gold for Great Britain that’s for sure.”
