Bude 24
ALEX Rakhshani made a big impression on his return from injury as Bude eased to a comfortable 24-0 victory over fellow mid-table side Tavistock at Bencoolen Meadow.
Angus Hodges’ men scored 12 points in each half as tries from Olly Mounce, Hodges, Will Kingdon and Rakhshamni ensured that they remain unbeaten at home.
Their cause was helped within the first five minutes as they scored their first try.
A Tavistock lineout in their own 22 was stolen, which allowed Bude to maul their way towards the line and eventually ended with scrum-half Mounce touching down.
While the first try was set-piece orientated. The second was anything but.
Number eight Joe Wilson went on one of his rampages down the blindside before offloading to winger Rakhshani.
He then drew in the Tavistock full-back before giving the ball to outside centre Hodges who had the simple task of scoring.
Olly Denford this time converted and Bude were in command despite playing against the wind.
The second-half was much of the same with Bude spending long periods of time in the Tavistock 22.
Their third try had an air of controversy about it.
Prop Simon Jeffery, picked up the ball a couple of metres out from the base of the ruck and dived over a number of players before the ball fell loose to leave second-row Will Kingdon with the easiest of tasks.
Bude were now playing for a fourth try, which would ensure a bonus point and they grabbed it near the end as Rakhshani finished off a good break by centre,?Ed Hilliam-Cooke. Denford converted to give
Hodges admitted he was pretty pleased with the performance heading into their week off from league action.
He said: “There were alot of positives and it was great to get the bonus point near the end.
“However, it could have been better. Our decision making around the rucks is where we fell down a little bit. We just need to have a bit more communication and leadership in that area but we’ll get there.
In the second-half I felt that we struggled to finish them off. We could have definitely scored more but we need to get our structure right. There were a few too many pick and gos and the speed of the ball was a slight problem.
“However, one thing I was really pleased with was our defence. They weren’t threatening at all.”
Hodges also praised Rakhshani and his fo
“Alex (Rakhshani) did impress me. He’s coming back after a long injury lay-off but he put his hand up. We’ve got a fair bit of competition in that area but he was lively and wanted to carry.
I was also pleased with the pack. They worked pretty hard and Warren Rumble got awarded the man of the match for a lot of hard work.
“We’ll make sure we train hard and work on some game situations so we’re ready for our next game in a couple of weeks time.”
