STAFF from the Bay View Inn at Widemouth Bay have come across a telegram dating back to the early 1960s.
The owners of the Bay View Inn are due to move on from the establishment in February after eleven years of serving top quality food, drinks, entertainment and hospitality.
Hayley Keene, owner, said: “We are moving on from the Bay View after eleven years on February 26. When we came to start packing, we found a box that has lots of old paperwork in — a diary of bookings from many, many years ago, and even old mortgage papers all the way back from the 1920s.”
Within the box of old papers was a telegram sent to the Bay View Inn on July 15, 1960 at 5.40pm. It reads: “Ichabod swallowed false teeth eating dog biscuit. What should I do?”
Presuming ‘Ichabod’ was a dog, Hayley and the team at the Bay View Inn thought the telegram was very funny. Hayley added: “It’s been a very interesting find!”
