RESIDENTS in Crackington Haven were treated to a day of music recently, when Brockhill Church’s long-standing organist hosted an Organ Play Along event.

Shirley Dawe has been organist at Brockhill Church, Crackington Haven, for over 33 years.

At the last church council meeting, Shirley mentioned that she wanted to arrange a sponsored Organ Play Along, after previously organising a similar event 16 years ago for chapel funds. This event received both appreciation and many donations for the cause.

Shirley’s Organ Play Along took place on June 19 at the church, from 10am until 4pm.

When the day beckoned, many went down to chapel to be greeted by Ray Dawe, Shirley’s husband, who had placed chairs out in the sunshine, the shade and front porch. Refreshments were offered.

Shirley plays to a high standard — years of practising and playing from an early age clearly showing, as her audience was treated to a varied and excellent repertoire of popular tunes and hymns, as well as some classical pieces.

Friends came in to sit in the coolness of chapel and enjoy the fine performance and peaceful atmosphere of the church.

There was also a prayer corner, which invited people to write their prayer requests and thoughts. A small group stayed on after the event and prayed each prayer request together.

All who came to hear Shirley play remarked on the lovely chapel and shared some of their thoughts with organisers throughout the day.

Generous support and sponsorship has brought in over £1,565 so far for chapel funds — a handsome sum in appreciation for the gifted talents of a member and the local community.
