A CORNISH adventurer and author will be attempting to run 100 miles across East Cornwall this weekend to raise money for a local charity.

Ed Buckingham will be tackling the mammoth challenge this Saturday and Sunday (September 26 and 27) in aid of the East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team.

Ed will begin his journey in Looe, before heading north to Boscastle and then onto Padstow. He will then travel south to Fowey and follow the coast path back to where he started. Ed has given himself 39 hours to complete the journey, which features 13 support stops and two river crossings.

Coming from a background of hill and coastal walkers, Ed is no stranger to a gruelling test of endurance. He became the first Cornishman to climb the highest summit on each of the world’s seven continents.

In 2013, he was awarded the Cornish Gorsedh award for Exceptional Endeavour in recognition for being the first person to raise the St Piran flag on the summit of Mount Everest.

This weekend’s challenge will see him raise vital funds for a charity who provide an inland search and rescue service for lost, missing and injured people across East Cornwall.

The crew of volunteer are on call 24/7, 365 days a year, ready to respond to emergencies in some of the most challenging terrains in the Duchy. As well as covering rural areas, they also respond to incidents in more urban environments from St Austell to Bude.

Having taken out helicopter repatriation cover on past trips without ever needing to use it, Ed hopes that he can help those that do get into distress and who need help from their local rescue team.
