Big Blue Surf School held its sixth annual 'Big Blue Beach Clean' in Bude recently. Around 40 volunteers spent over an hour cleaning up Summerleaze,

Middle and Crooklets Beaches. Twenty four black bin bags of rubbish were collected from the three town beaches. The rubbish collected included beach visitor litter, plastic debris, bits of fishing net and even the head of a vacuum cleaner! The beach clean was run in conjunction with Cornwall Council's Beach Ranger Service, who provided beach cleaning equipment and a Beach Ranger, and was part of the national Beach Clean Network. Fantastic goody bags for all the volunteers were kindly provided by Gul and Bloc Eyewear.

Jon Price, owner and head coach of Big Blue Surf School said: "We organise the beach clean every year with our Junior Surf Academy. However, this is the first time we've invited the general public to join in and we've been really pleased with the support we've had. It's been lovely to see local people of all generations from toddlers to pensioners getting stuck in and doing their bit; I think people are pleased to see a local business putting something back in to the community. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped." Big Blue also wants to apologise to anyone who went to Fat Face for a further goody bag. Unfortunately these didn't arrive in time for the event.
