This year musicians throughout the world are commemorating the anniversary of the death of the famous Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn.

The event's being remembered by the Bude Choral Society with a performance of one of Haydn's greatest choral works 'The Seasons'. This is an unusual work due to the fact that most well known choral compositions are written about religious or classical characters. 'The Seasons' is mostly about country people and the weather.

The performance of this work on Saturday, March 21 by more than 50 singers of the Choral Society will be accompanied on the organ and keyboard by musicians, David Robinson and Sylvia Goldspink under the baton of the Society's Director of Music, John Hobbs.

This event takes place

during John's 38th year as choir conductor and he has selected this work, which he last conducted here 17 years ago. He has chosen three excellent soloists, Catherine Hamilton, Leslie Baker and David Fouracre, who are all residents of the West Country and they will sing the parts of the country folk — a farmer, his daughter and a young countryman.

The concert will take place at Bude Central Methodist Church on Saturday, March 21 commencing at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Ark Angel Bookshop, Bude or at the church door. The

concert will be followed by free refreshments in the Church Hall.
