BUDE Sea Pool is set to be the venue for a record attempt with a serious message at its heart.

On Bank Holiday Monday (August 31) the pool is hosting ‘The Big Float’. The event is set to welcome swimmers from across the region to learn one of the RNLI’s most important water safety skills 'Float to Live’, before taking part in a mass floating session in the pool.

The record is forming part of the town’s fundraising efforts for RNLI Bude Lifeboat Day, with everyone being invited to get involved.

A spokesperson from Bude Sea Pool said: “Participants can drop in at any point during the morning, take part in the supervised practice sessions, and then join the group in the water at midday.

“The aim is simple: to get as many people as possible safely in the pool, floating together, and demonstrate just how important this potentially lifesaving skill can be.

“Float to Live is the RNLI’s recommended technique for anyone who unexpectedly finds themselves in the water. By staying calm, controlling their breathing, floating on their back, and keeping their head above the surface, a person can give themselves time to recover and call for help.

“At Bude Sea Pool, visitors will be able to practise the technique in a safe and supervised environment, with guidance from members of Bude Surf Life Saving Club and the RNLI Water Safety team.

“Whether you're new to floating, want to improve your confidence in the water, or simply want to support the community and be part of something fun, everyone is welcome.”

The event is an opportunity to meet the RNLI and local lifesaving teams, ask questions about water safety and see how full the pool can get for The Big Float.
