RESIDENTS feel they have been left in limbo as progress for a local banking hub stagnates.

Back in March, Cash Access UK announced that a banking hub would be opening in Bude. The scheme provides a space in which residents can access cash and banking services despite closures of bank branches across the area.

Last year, it was announced that the town’s TSB would close its doors in May 2025.

With closures becoming more common, banking hubs are becoming a necessity to fulfil residents’ banking needs.

For much of the year, the temporary banking hub has been open in the town’s Parkhouse Centre. It provides the convenience of a community banker service, where residents can discuss more complex banking matters. Community bankers from TSB, NatWest, Barclay, and Lloyds all attend the site to provide support.

Open weekdays from 9am until 5pm, the hub offers basic banking and cash services.

However, residents were recently pleased to see posters erected in a property on Burn View. The posters exclaim ‘your new banking hub opens here soon’. However, Cash Access UK has told the Post that it is still working to secure plans for a banking hub in the town.

A spokesperson explained: “Our team is working hard to progress plans for the permanent banking hub in Bude, which will offer the same services as the temporary location at the Parkhouse Centre. Customers can visit the hub for everyday banking transactions on weekdays, and for more complex enquiries, a community banker will be available on designated days to provide support.

“We look forward to sharing further updates on the hub’s permanent home soon. Residents can stay informed about our progress via our website.”

Until the permanent venue’s opening, residents feel forced to use the temporary service after the town’s banks closed their doors.
