A NEW company specialising in caring for older people so that they can remain living in their own homes, has just opened and hopes to create 50 new jobs.

Home Instead Senior Care will care for clients across Tavistock and the Tamar Valley including Bude, Launceston, Saltash, Torpoint and surrounding areas.

For owner, Lynn Roddy, married mum of two, this exciting new venture is not entirely a step into the dark.

She has been caring for most of her life and the move to set up Home Instead Senior Care was inspired by both her own caring experience with her family and also her time spent in the army.

Lynn explained: “I come from a caring family, my mum was a nurse who even in later life continued to be a Marie Curie nurse providing end of life care. During my career in the army, I looked after new and young recruits guiding them and supporting them in what could be a tough environment. It was wonderful to see them grow and to help them to map out a great future for themselves.”

Lynn cared for her mum as she got older. Like many who suddenly find themselves caring for a loved one whilst they are still working and with their own family, it can be tough. She found it was incredibly difficult to find the right support, advice and a care service which could help.

So she made the decision to set up her own business, one which would really make a difference to the lives of others.

She explained: “At Home Instead Senior Care we deliver care as it should be, spending time, caring for our clients, understanding how they want to be looked after as well as providing peace of mind for their families and loved ones. We will also be meeting with people in my lovely local community providing information about what is available and where to go to when caring for a loved one.”

She added: “Our minimum call is one hour, so our caregivers are not rushed. This also enables us to provide companionship, which is really important for the well-being of older people, spending time having a chat and a cup of tea, going for a walk or to the shops.

“This is why I am excited about providing home care that can help to maintain our clients independence for as long as possible and why we take time to carefully match our caregivers to our clients to ensure that they build long-lasting relationships.”
