THERE was a strong turn out in Bude on Tuesday, June 14, to mark the 40th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War.

Bude & Stratton branch RBL Standard was paraded as was Bude branch RNA.

The commemoration was celebrated at the War Memorial on Shalder Hill Bude.

Wreaths were laid by representatives of all the forces involved and Bude-Stratton Town Council.

The playing of the Last Post and Reveille by Bude Town Band stalwart David Inch. There were seven veterans of the conflict on parade, from the Royal Navy — Parachute Regiment — Royal Air Force — Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

The parade included ex-service personnel of all branches of the armed forces and all were pleased that Tom Stubbs a serving Royal Marine was able to be present.

Godfrey Harrison branch chairman of Bude & Stratton RBL said it was gratifying that Budehaven Community School were represented by Royal British Legion House and their teachers, all were a credit to the school.

As part of living history, the pupils were introduced to Alan Litchfield, a 97-year-old former Royal Marine and D Day veteran.

Bude Platoon and the RNLI were present and supported the event along with a number of loyal supporters.
