Women’s Institute
Lezant WI President, Diana Anderson, welcomed everyone to the Centenary Luncheon .
Guests included from Cornwall Federation of Women’s Institutes: Co-chairs Liz Baker and Margaret Johnson; Advisor Helen Kestle; Former advisors Kathy Reed and Pam Parnell; Three past presidents: Jill Price (1998 -2001); Veryan Milne Home (2005 -2008); and Jean Mansell (2008 -2014). Three past members: Jean Morton Hughes; Kathie Scott; and Mary Tucker.
Other guests included: Pat Mallett from Coads Green WI, Rhona Cowling, Margaret Stephens, Janet Honey, Fay Knight and Valerie Tooley.

A teddy bear made by Jadzia Kent was donated for naming to raise funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. Further opportunities to buy tickets to name the bear will be at the Lezant Horticultural Show on August 10 and the Craft and Produce Fair in Trebullett Chapel Hall on Saturday, October 25.
Once the formalities were over, Diana invited guests to enjoy the buffet lunch prepared by members.
With Centenary Birthday Cards read out and gifts received, the afternoon continued as people relaxed after delicious desserts.
The president Diana gave a potted history of how Lezant WI came into being in 1925.
She thanked those who had made and decorated a tablecloth which reflected that although Lezant WI is still a “crafty” organisation, it is also one looking forward and involved in current events as seen in its programme for the next year - starting with a visit from an owl to finding out about modern xrays or scans etcetera!
Thanks were also given to everyone who had made the celebration a success especially to Sue Oatey for managing the catering and Ann Johns for making the celebration cake.
Three poems were read out: “80 Years On”, written by Rosalie Raymont as part of our 80th anniversary celebrations read by Ruth Burden. “My Thoughts on the WI” written and read by Diana. “The WI Beatitudes” read by Alice Brown.
Jill Price thanked Lezant WI for the centenary celebration luncheon.
Alice Brown cut the cake as having been in the WI for 60 years and she ended the afternoon leading the singing of “Jerusalem” (the WI Anthem) followed by “God Save the King”. Alice has been involved with the WI for many years conducting choirs throughout the county and nationally.
Many people had made the celebration possible-including some men! Thanks were offered to all those involved who will know who they are!. Their hard work was greatly appreciated.
Bude
Women’s Institute
The Bude branch of the Women’s Institute welcomed their speaker, Mrs Christine March, who spoke about ‘Mrs Huckles’ world of cutlery.
Members were able to view her large collection of ancient/antique cutlery. Her talk was very interesting going through the years and was enjoyed by us all.

Mrs March judged our competition which was a table full of different forks brought in by our members. Some were aged from many years ago.
The Winner was Brenda with a quality solid silver early Victorian bread fork.
Our flower of the month; the winner was Mrs Geraldine Edwards.
Sue Greenwood has taken over the competitions role from Eileen.
Thank you for all the raffle donations, which made £92.
Morwenstow
Shop Methodist Chapel
Rev Meg Slingo requested that the congregation of the Methodist Chapel at Shop attire themselves with 'Easter Bonnets' for the Holy Communion service at the Chapel on Easter Sunday. Rev Meg enjoyed inspecting each one, worn with pride on this very special day. Each one was of a different style and Rev Meg thanked everyone for going to such effort.
Colin Tape was the organist for the following hymns: 'Christ the Lord is risen today', 'I will enter his gates with thanksgiving in my heart', 'Low in the grave He lay', 'Let us break bread together' and 'Thine be the glory'.
Lessons were read by Jennifer Vanstone and Celia Cleave.
The Holy Communion was administered by Rev Meg assisted by Bill Cleave in the form of intinction.
The service was followed by coffee and a chance to chat in The Wesley Room.
Andrew Pitt of Bude led the service at the chapel on Sunday, April 27.
Colin Tape was the organist for the hymns: 'Christ is alive, let Christians sing!', 'Now the green blade rises', 'And can it be' and 'Thine be the glory'.
The lesson was read by Freda Olde and the Merrytones Praise Group sang: 'He touched me'.
After the service, during the period of coffee and chat, Jill Johns, on behalf of all the members and friends of the Chapel presented Bill Cleave with a signed card and Garden Centre Voucher. Bill had celebrated the occasion of his 90th Birthday the previous day. Bill was also presented with a signed card from all the Merrytones Praise Group, of which Bill is such a valued member.
Barry Bryne of Stratton led the service at the Chapel on Sunday, May 4.

The service was followed by coffee and a chance to chat in the Wesley Room.
The service at the Chapel on Sunday, May 11, was led by Rev Richard Ward-Smith, with the theme of the service being 'All about Sheep!'. After a quick question, Rev Richard established that only one person in the congregation had never had the task of looking after sheep!

The Merrytones Praise Group sang: 'One day at a time sweet Jesus'.

Woodford Chapel
On Maundy Thursday the service at Woodford Methodist Chapel was led by Rev Richard Ward-Smith who provided a very thoughtful sermon based on the betrayal of Jesus.
The congregation chose their favourite hymns. The Good Friday Concert was led by The Torridge Male Voice Choir. They sang a variety of hymns and songs and the programme included a flute solo by Shirley-Ann Andrews, who chaired the evening.
A Savoury and Sweet supper was served by all the members of the Chapel to close. The Easter Sunday morning service was a local arrangement service and was taken by Nicola and Elizabeth Hobbs with a short Service of hymns and readings and afterwards, all the congregation were given Easter Eggs and iced cakes to eat while enjoying Easter themed crafts.
Elizabeth Hobbs and Darren Cornish performed a Dolly Parton song entitled "He's Alive" and our final hymn was "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross" and was sung outside in the Chapel grounds.
North Hill
Parish Council
North Hill Parish Council held their annual parish meeting on May 15 at 7pm where the chairman shared her report regarding the activities of the parish council over the past twelve months.
At 7.15pm the Annual General Meeting was held, the chairman and vice chairman were both re-elected for a further twelve months. At 7.30pm the monthly meeting took place.
Planning items on the agenda for recommendations and information were discussed.
Further discussion was held regarding the ongoing development of the Emergency Plan for North Hill Parish, the document would be condensed once complete and placed on the website for parishioners information.
Two members of the public were co opted onto the council filling all ten seats. Now that the better weather has arrived, a further cemetery meeting was arranged for the working group. This will look at the next steps towards the opening of the cemetery. The Annual Accounts were accepted and agreed, North Hill Parish Council were able to declare themselves exempt this year with an annual turnover of less than £25,000. The problematic parking at North Hill Village Hall junction was again discussed however this was considered to be primarily a Highways matter. The next meeting is due to take place on June 2. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting to raise any views or ideas they may have.

Women’s Institute
At the last meeting Mike Stephens gave a talk entitled “Bulbs of the Month.” He projected on to the wall in the Parish Hall in Upton Cross flowers of all varieties and shades, he suggested one or two suitable for each month, and advised when to plant the bulbs and how deep they should be in the soil.
His enthusiasm was catching and the well deserved vote of thanks was given by Sue Morton. Member Viv Trill won the raffle and the Posy Challenge and Marion Turner won the competition.
Following the AGM , a member of the group, Beverley Underwood is then going to talk about Aromatherapy.
