A MEMBER of the dedicated fire crew team at Holsworthy Fire Station has celebrated passing an important assessment after more than a year of dedicated work.
David Goodman, a firefighter at Holsworthy Fire Station, has passed his ‘Incident Command Assessment’ after an intense period of work.
Mr Goodman had prepared for the assessment in a period lasting over a year, undertaking a series of extra training nights at Barnstaple fire station in addition to in house training at Holsworthy Fire Station.
After successfully completing his incident command assessment, Mr Goodman is now qualified to be an officer in charge of fire appliances and crews at operational incidents where he will be the responsible leading officer at such events.
A spokesperson for Holsworthy Fire Station said: “A massive well done to Firefighter David Goodman here at Holsworthy Fire Station on passing his Incident Command assessment! Over the last year or so, Dave has been preparing for the intense course and final assessment by doing extra training nights at Barnstaple and in house training here at Holsworthy.
“These involved both theory and practical sessions practicing all things being an operational incident commander. Now Dave has officially passed and gained his ICS L1 qualification, he can now be the officer in charge of fire appliances and crews at operational incidents.
“This role involves being the responsible leading officer who will be making a plan with clear priorities and objectives, recognising hazards, implementing the correct systems of work and procedures to deal with the situations we may face and also organising the incident ground.
“With the overall aim to achieve a safe and effective conclusion to any fire or rescue incident we attend. We are all super proud of this achievement in your fire service career! A big well done from all at Station 10 - Holsworthy.”
