A newly qualified GP from Camelford has smashed the fastest known time for running the 384.1 mile circumference of Cornwall.

Elsey Davis, 36, ran the distance in six days and eight hours.

The challenge took every ounce of resilience and determination she could muster, having run 16 hours a day to complete the challenge. facing strong winds and rain including a yellow weather warning because of Storm Amy.

At the finish Elsey said: “I have never been more broken but somehow the most whole I have felt in a long time.

“Today I became the first person to run the circumference of Cornwall. 6 days and 8 hours, 384.1 miles, 87,644 feet. Every single step was for my mother; the person who gave me the grit, and strength."

About battling the winds and rain of Storm Amy, Elsey added: “The distance and the weather took a huge toll on my body. That particular part of the coast path was tough, lots of steep steps up and down with sore and swollen knees while battling against 50mph winds.”

The professional trail runner set herself the challenge to raise money and awareness of Young-onset Alzheimer's after her mother received a diagnosis of the disease in 2023.

Elsey added: "No distance is too far or too painful for my mother or the fight against Alzheimer's.

“My mother joined me for the finish although she was unable to fully grasp what I had been doing, I could see the joy in her eyes when she ran the last few hundred metres with me with a crowd cheering us on.

“It's amazing what you can do driven by love."

The Cornish runner is hoping to raise over £20,000 from the challenge and is 89 per cent of the way to her target.
