A town council is seeking residents’ views on the future of a community asset.

Bude-Stratton Town Council is inviting residents, local workers, and visitors to share their views on how Stratton Stores and the Post Office are used, and the role it plays in the community.

Back in March 2023, the council made the decision to ‘save’ 1 Lord’s Court for the local community after it had become aware of a threat of closure to Stratton Stores. The council received many letters of concern about the detrimental impact the loss of such an important amenity would have on the community.

Following the decision to purchase the site, the council won the auction after securing the building for £275,000.

Alongside the shop and Post Office, the building also contains three flats though these are currently unoccupied and in need of refurbishment.

In an effort to explore any potential options for the building, Bude-Stratton Town Council is running a community survey to better understand, how Stratton Stores and the Post Office are used currently, the importance of these services to local people, the accessibility of alternative services, and residents’ views on potential investment and financial implications.

Touching on the project, the projects and planning officer for Bude-Stratton Town Council said: “This is an important opportunity for people in Stratton and the wider area to tell us how they use Stratton Stores and Post Office, and how much these services matter to them. The feedback gathered through this consultation will help inform the council’s next steps.”

The survey will remain open until Wednesday, September 24, and can be completed online via the council’s website.

Paper copies are also available to collect from the town council offices at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude.
