THE reasons that a man who was alleged to have been taking photographs of children at a town carnival has been given an instant jail sentence have been confirmed after a recent court hearing.

51-year-old Jonathon Walker, a resident of Pool Street in the town was handed a 12 month jail sentence after police received reports of a man taking photographs of young children including babies and girls during the Bodmin Carnival.

Mr Walker was jailed after a hearing at Bodmin Magistrate Courts for breaching a sexual harm prevention order after the incident on August 15, with the sentence handed out as he had only been released from a lengthy jail sentence in December 2025.

He pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order that had been made by Plymouth Crown Court in April 2008.

This was namely taking part in a leisure activity that was ‘likely to bring him into contact with a child under 16, possessing and using a WAP enabled mobile phone with a camera that was capable of recording an image.

Because of the short period of time from his release from jail and his re-offending, Mr Walker was given a 12 month custodial sentence - with the court hearing that multiple members of the public had contacted Devon and Cornwall Police after he was seen taking the photographs of babies and children.
