THREE Explorer Scouts from Bude hope to travel ‘across the pond’ to America to join the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019.

Thomas Horn, Leon Cherrington-Jones and Samuel O’Reilly are planning to make the trip to West Virginia in 2019 but in order to do so they must first raise £4,000 each.

They said: “We are three Cornish lads from the Porth-Emmet (Bude) Explorer Scout Unit who have been scouting together for the past nine years. After much work and a very rainy selection camp we were selected to attend the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, North America in 2019.

“The trip will cost us £4,000 each to include training, essential equipment and three weeks in North America including five days home hospitality with a Canadian or American family; a Washington DC or New York day trip and, of course, two weeks at the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia.

“It truly will be the adventure of a lifetime!”

The three Scouts are hoping to gain as much local support as possible and have set up a GoFundMe page to help fund the trip. They added: “We will be forever grateful for anybody who wishes to aid us in achieving our dream.”
