GO CORNWALL bus drivers and depot workers are to begin industrial action short of a strike after union members voted overwhelmingly to oppose the company’s refusal to recognise their union.

The RMT has announced members will take action from Friday, October 2, in a dispute over trade union recognition.

The union says its members voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action to assert their right to representation.

The action will not involve strike days but will include a ban on overtime and rest-day working. Members have also been instructed to take their full meal breaks, rather than working through them.

The RMT says the dispute centres on Go Cornwall’s refusal to recognise the union, despite a ruling by the TUC Disputes Committee in January.

RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “It is time Go Cornwall respected the democratic choice of the whole workforce by creating a united bargaining structure that genuinely protects every driver and depot worker.”

Go Cornwall have been asked to comment, but as yet no response has been received.
