The Dunheved Flower and Garden Group for February had a coach trip to see Trevor Wiltshire’s Garden at Pencarn in Wadebridge (pictured).

They also visited the Trelawney Garden Centre in the morning for a chance to look around the shop, garden ornaments and plants on display, where many purchased items for their gardens at home.

Good use was made of the restaurant prior to the afternoon visit to Pencarn Cyclamen Garden.

Trevor gave a warm welcome where the group soon took to the paths and lawn treading carefully between the spring flowers to take in this landscape of trees, ponds and waterfalls which cut through the sloping garden around his house, also providing a natural watering system for the plants.

Following the different paths they gathered around his greenhouses where his passion for plants could be seen and his chatter about his collection from seed, germinating to mature plants, with lots of his different varieties potted waiting to be sorted at different stages of growth.

A range of soft fruits and vegetables also provided the household with as fresh as you can get food, from the warm sun facing walled terrace garden. With palms, shrubs, perennials and bulbs there was always something to do throughout the year.

The group were then invited into the house for a splendid afternoon tea with a mixture of cakes to enjoy.

Chairman John Ellacott thanked Trevor and his family for making the group so welcome and able to wonder around his garden with their Tea NGS Garden Scheme donation helping a little for the Cornwall Air Ambulance Fund. He said the group looked forward to his talk in April on Japan gardens and temples.

A reminder was given out for March 17 which will be a talk by Wayne Marshall on St Luke’s Open Gardens also in Launceston Central Hall.

With a safe journey home John thanked Tilley’s Coaches for another dryer than expected day out.
