THERE are still a number of exciting Platinum Jubilee events in Holsworthy and the surrounding area to get involved with, including:

HOLSWORTHY

Saturday, June 4

2.30pm to 5.30pm — The Bowls Club, in Stanhope Park, will be offering a come and try bowls session.

2pm — Stanhope Park will play host to Holsworthy’s ‘Commonwealth Games’ for children aged five to 14. There will also be an exciting ‘Grand National Hobby Horse Race Final’ and the Make, Bake and Create competition.

7pm — On the stage, outside St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church, all are welcome to join to watch the Platinum Jubilee concert live from London on a giant screen.

Sunday, June 5

3pm to 6pm — Holsworthy’s Big Jubilee Street Party, on Fore Street. Tickets for seats are free and are available from the Town Council officers, open 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. There will be street entertainment, children’s rides and face painters too — but don’t forget to bring a picnic!

6pm to 10pm — Rounding off the town’s entertainment, on the stage outside St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church there will be live entertainment including a performance by ‘UKQueen’ who will create a musical ‘experience’ that ‘will Rock You’.

(Fore Street and North Road in Holsworthy will be closed from 6pm on Friday, June 3, until 10am on Monday, June 6.  Access will be available to residents apart from on Sunday, June 5, from 10am to 10pm.)

CHILSWORTHY

Saturday, June 4

2pm to 4pm — A Queen’s Jubilee Party will be held in Chilsworthy Village Hall on Saturday, June 4, from 2pm to 4pm. A traditional afternoon tea plus children’s games/activities, in Chilsworthy Village Hall, £1.50 per person, to book a place contact Rachael on 07816 474409.

5.30pm — Later that day, from 5.30pm, they will hold a special skittles night in the village hall. £6 per team of six to play skittles, and £5 for basket meals and the bar will be open.

ASHWATER

As part of its Jubilee weekend of celebrations Ashwater will host a Village Green Fete on June 2 from 11am to 5pm.

There will be family games and competitions including parachuting teddies, hunt for the Queen’s jewels, fancy dress, scarecrows, a photographic exhibition (in the church), plant and cake sale, Maypole dancing, and music by Ashwater Steel Band.

To complete the day there will be a hog roast outside the hall at 7.30pm, and the lighting of the Beacon will commence at 9.15pm.

On June 3 there will be an invitation skittles event at 1.30pm for the ‘Jubilee Trophy’ and a themed quiz at 7pm (tickets from the shop).

There is to be a morning craft fair on June 4 in the hall until 12.30pm, and at 7pm in the hall a free Ceilidh will take place, featuring ‘Spinach for Norman’.

A church service at 11am on June 5, will be followed by a performance of the ‘Bells of Ashwater’ by ‘Thimblerigg’, before a ‘bring and share’ at The Big Lunch from 12.30pm.

Grand draw tickets will be on sale (drawn at The Big Lunch) and the Village Floral Competition winners will be announced (entry forms from the shop and hall until May 28).

A souvenir programme will shortly be delivered around the village.
