A PILLAR of the Holsworthy community who has helped champion for and impact the lives of many of the town’s youths has been given a prestigious honour to celebrate his efforts.
Lt Jim Harvey was awarded the Freeman of the town to commemorate his work with the Holsworthy Army Cadets Force (ACF).
At the annual parish meeting and awards evening of Holsworthy Town Council, Lt Harvey was awarded the Freeman of Holsworthy by the town’s mayor.
In a citation accompanying the honour, Cllr Jon Hutchings said: “The award goes to someone you will have seen in town on special occasions and joined the Holsworthy cadets in 2001 where he has been the detachment commander.
“Many young people have benefitted from his efforts over his 25 years of service, and this is very much deserved.”
A spokesperson for Devon ACF said: Lt Harvey was awarded the Freeman of Holsworthy by mayor Jon Hutchings at the annual town council meeting. This prestigious honour recognised two decades of service to the local community.
“Joining Devon ACF in 2000, Lt Harvey has worked up through the ranks over 20 years, serving as Detachment Commander for over 10 of those.
“The award recognises his outstanding contribution as a youth leader through the ACF as well as marshalling the Holsworthy Remembrance Parade for 15 consecutive years. (It is) truly well-deserved.”
On receiving the honour, Lt Harvey said: “I’m humbled, honoured and happy to receive this award. Community engagement and youth development is at the heart of Holsworthy Detachment. I remain committed to supporting local young people in being the best version of themselves using the fantastic opportunities on offer through membership of Devon Army Cadet Force.”
