THE mayor of Holsworthy has given his thanks to a group of volunteers who have helped out with general maintenance at the outreach centre of North Devon Hospice and also used the opportunity to encourage more to volunteer for the charity.

It comes as 12 volunteers working for satellite broadcaster Sky spent their nominated charity day undertaking general maintenance to the Longhouse in the town.

Cllr Jon Hutchings, the mayor of Holsworthy said: “I had the pleasure of visiting the North Devon Hospice's Holsworthy outreach centre, the Longhouse. The reason for the visit was to meet 12 volunteers from Sky.

“The Sky engineers cover our region and once a year volunteer a days work to a nominated charity. This year being the Long House here in Holsworthy. They helped with general maintenance including gardening, replacing slabs, relaying some bricks and a general tidy up.

“I made the visit to say thank you and delivered some well earned ice cold drinks! Whilst there i met the Hospice’s maintenance team who were delighted to have the extra help. They also mentioned the need for some extra 'green fingered' volunteers at the Longhouse. Could you spare a few hours a week to help out? if so please contact the North Devon Hospice.”
