A STUDENT from Launceston is celebrating after being recognised for their outstanding contributions to the region’s Cadet programme.

Launceston College student, Lilia, has been presented with the prestigious ‘Cadet of the Day Award’ at a recent Devon and Cornwall Cadet Celebration event.

Lilia, who is a student within the college's Area Resource Base (ARB), was one of those who had been recognised for their efforts at the event, which brought together young people from cadet units across Devon and Cornwall.

The celebration welcomed cadets from units in Camborne, St Austell, Launceston, Plympton, Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Torbay, Exeter, Mid Devon and Barnstaple. The event also recognised the dedication of more than 30 volunteer cadet leaders who give their time to support young people and deliver social action projects across the two counties.

Lilia’s Cadet of the Day Award aims to recognise cadets who have demonstrated commitment, enthusiasm and positive engagement within the programme, and Lilia's achievement reflects her hard work and dedication.

Staff at Launceston College were delighted to hear of Lilia's success and praised the positive example she sets for others.

A spokesperson from the school said: “The college recognises the important role that organisations such as the Cadet programme play in helping young people develop confidence, teamwork, leadership skills and a sense of community.

Mr Matthew Thompson, principal at Launceston College has expressed his pride at Lilia’s achievement, saying it reflects the enthusiasm that she brings to every aspect of her work.

He said: "We are incredibly proud of Lilia and this well-deserved recognition. The Cadet of the Day Award is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment, resilience and enthusiasm that she brings to everything she does. It is wonderful to see her efforts celebrated at such a significant regional event."
