Dear Editor,

I love reading Len Sheppard’s column on Cornwall heritage in the Cornish and Devon post. Last week it was about St Michaels’s Mount.

My grandfather John (Jack) Northey had worked as a gardener at Endsleigh House for the Duke of Bedford; in 1911 he moved to St Michaels’s Mount working as a gardener for Lord St Levan.

Its lovely to think he planted many of the sub-tropical plants and trees. Hopefully some of them still survive having beaten the rigours of time, and bested storm Goretti.
