THE annual Holsworthy pantomime has been praised by the town’s mayor after he attended the event.

Cllr Jon Hutchings said that despite not enjoying watching pantomimes in his younger years, he exclaimed that the performance of Robin Hood by Holsworthy Amateur Theatrical Society (HATS) was one he thoroughly enjoyed.

He said that he was particularly admiring of not only the performance, but also the commitment of all involved, with 14 performances being put on across a two week period.

HATS is a fixture in the fabric of Holsworthy’s cultural community, with regular performances taking place in their dedicated 250-seat theatre across the year.

Cllr Hutchings, the mayor of Holsworthy, said: “I thought it was about time i visited the pantomime after some encouragement from the chair and secretary of HATS! I have to say I wasn't disappointed.

“Having been in several pantomimes back in my younger days i never really been one for watching the panto as I had preferred being on stage rather in front of it! I went to watch this years Robin Hood. and I am glad I did as it was a great performance.

“It was great to see some of the main characters being played by younger members who did a fantastic job. Lickspittle the Sheriffs servant was brilliant, and it took me until the half time interval to work out who was playing the part. I also thought that the dame, and widow hood were very entertaining.

“All the cast did a fabulous job. After the show I got to go back stage, meet some of the cast and back stage crew. I admire their commitment of being part of a two week show with 14 performances.

“Well done to all the cast, back stage, production and everyone involved, you did Holsworthy proud.”
