THE countdown is on for Hartland Carnival on Saturday, August 10.

The carnival is a very special event for the whole community of Hartland, and greatly loved by many of the regular visitors who come from far and wide.?

A spokesman said: “Working together with the committee, it seems that most of our residents either take part in, or help in some way to organise activities or perform the many tasks required to put on an event such as this. All the funds we raise are ploughed back into the community via our participating groups. We of course rely on our wonderful sponsors, who continue to support us year after year.”

Hartland plays host to a full week of events, ending with The Grand Procession on Saturday, which leads off at 7pm.

During the week several events take place including favourites such as bingo and quiz nights, skittle knockout competition and a firm favorite for young and old is the fun figurines competition with ‘Villains’ being the theme this year, to walk around the village during the week.

The Business Premises competition is excellent once again and you need to come and visit Hartland during the week to take in the wonderful displays — map available at the Post Office!

For anyone attending the carnival, free parking is provided all around the town. Extra free parking has been arranged this year. Floats begin to assemble from 5pm and are judged between 6pm and 7pm, after which they will make two circuits of the village.

As a part of the centenary celebrations in 2014 the committee included entertainment outside in the square, which by popular demand has been repeated every year.

So, accordingly this year, there will be fairground rides, face painting, food and stalls from 4pm to 7pm, and from 9pm to midnight free late entertainment including Hartland Town Band, Samba Bands, music from Over & Above plus other performers.
