THE founder and director of Highgate Hill House School, in Whitstone, recently visited the House of Lords to help raise the profile of the school and to discuss the need to open up learning through the use of mobile technology.

Sir Peter Birkett is not only the founder of Highgate Hill House School, which caters for children with special learning needs, but is also the education ambassador for ‘Women’s Coin’, a cryptocurrency that empowers women through education.

Using this, Sir Birkett launched into a discussion in the House of Lords on the ‘women’s coin foundation’ which will deliver education, training and a knowledge platform to equip and empower women and girls to reach their potential.

Half of the pre-tax profits made from Women’s Coin will be donated to the Women’s Coin Foundation. The foundation works to empower women through the use of blockchain technology and deliver humanitarian support — meaning anyone with a mobile phone can access web-enabled skill training via the foundation.

More than 100 international corporations and individuals attended the conversation at the House of Lords and Sir Birkett said: “As a British educator of 30 years, it was a real honour to take part in this discussion at the House of Lords. The impact of technology within educational settings is something that I’m very passionate about, both in my role at Women’s Coin and at Highgate Hill House School.

“It was a great opportunity for me to share the amazing successes of our special educational needs school in the heart of Devon, with some very influential businesses and investors from around the world.”
