MP for North Cornwall, Scott Mann has given his response to the Prime Minister's announcement regarding the government's approach to tackling illegal immigration.

This morning, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak held an emergency press conference to announce his new Rwanda legislation.

At the announcement, the Prime Minister said: "this blocks every single reason that has ever been used to prevent flights."

He continued: "The only extremely narrow exception will be if you can prove with credible and compelling evidence that you specifically have a real and imminent risk of serious and irreversible harm".

Now, MP for North Cornwall, Scott Mann has given his response to the new bill.

Speaking to the Post, he said: I welcome the Prime Minister’s announcement on illegal immigration today and I fully support the measures that have been put forward under the bill.

“It is clear from conversations with North Cornwall constituents on the doorsteps and from the many emails and letters I have received that local people want strong action to be taken – and this is exactly what we are doing.

“We need to put the brakes on the never-ending merry-go-round of illegal migration delay tactics. We will do whatever it takes to tackle Channel crossings. When people know that if they come here illegally, they won’t get to stay – they will stop coming and we will stop the boats.”
