A VILLAGE hall has said it must close for a temporary period due to serious issues with the roof.
The committee responsible for the operation of Shebbear Village Hall have said that hidden leaks within the roof structure have worsened to the point where it is causing issues with the centre’s electrics and the structure of the roof.
As a result, it has been left with no choice but to close until further notice while it liaises with the insurance company and contractors to repair the building and make it safe.
A spokesperson said: “It is with regret that we have to announce the temporary closure of the village hall.
“Unfortunately there has been some hidden leaks in the roof that have been developing for some time which has created issues with the electrics and the roof structure itself.
“The decision was only made yesterday afternoon and we are contacting those affected with bookings as quickly as we can but please understand that this has escalated quickly and was very much unexpected.
“We would like to thank all of our users for their patience and understanding whilst we liaise with the insurance company and contractors to ensure the hall is back in operation and safe for our community to use.”
