Students from Budehaven Community School are holding a fund raising concert to help pay for an expedition in Indonesia which they will undertake in the summer of 2009.
The students, Rosie Cole, Katie Walker, Sally Fairclough, Matt Lennox, Nick Reps, Matt Skinner, Jamie Etherington and Sam Latter, have organised an exciting concert on December 13 at the school in the John Ward Hall.
Three amazing acts have agreed to take part in the concert — Keith Donnelly, a comedian and singer songwriter who has written material for Jasper Carrot and Phil Cool and had his own BBC TV show, and local bands Kath and Her Blue Grass Boys and Super Glue Fingers.
The students, along with teacher Will Howells, will be travelling to join the Operation Wallacea expedition in Indonesia in the summer of 2009. The expedition's objective is to help with a major bio diversity survey in conjunction with World Bank survey teams in lowland forest sites.
The project has managed to discover 21 new vertebrate species and rediscover some that were thought to be extinct. This has enabled Operation Wallacea to protect the forest by helping the Indonesian people to see the importance of the habitat and by providing them with alternative Fair Trade schemes such as cashew nuts to provide their income instead of deforestation.
The group are all very excited about taking part in such an important conservation project helping to save animals like the Tarsier.
The concert is taking place on Saturday, December 13 at Budehaven Community School in the John Ward Hall. For tickets call Elaine Cole on 01288 331540.
