A SOUTH East Cornwall theatre company is preparing to bring a cult musical comedy to the stage after the huge success of its first production.

Teylu Theatre Company will stage Little Shop of Horrors at Rilla Mill Village Hall during October half term, marking its first venture into musical theatre.

The production will run from October 28 to 31 and follows the company’s successful summer performances of Calendar Girls, which attracted hundreds of people across four venues in Cornwall and Devon.

Teylu – meaning ‘family’ in Cornish – was formed just 18 months ago to give adults across the area opportunities to perform on stage, work backstage and front of house, and become part of an inclusive and creative community.

Jane Warwick, from the company’s creative team, said Little Shop of Horrors was the perfect introduction to musical theatre for Teylu.

“With its catchy music, bizarre storyline and strange and interesting plant, Little Shop of Horrors is great fun, often poignant and sometimes quite ridiculous,” she said.

“It’s the perfect start to Teylu Theatre Company’s Musical Theatre experience. The cast are just brilliant and we are really looking forward to bringing this upbeat production to life within the local community.”

The show’s star plant, Audrey II, has already been attracting attention in the window of Boost House in Liskeard.

Boost is once again supporting the community theatre company by providing rehearsal space, following its support for Calendar Girls.

Teylu chair Laura Pearson said 2026 had been an “incredibly exciting year” for the company.

The summer production of Calendar Girls featured sell-out performances, received strong audience feedback and raised £7,000 for the company’s charity partner.

She said the new production would feature a live band, talented performers and “amazing puppets”.
