THOUSANDS has been raised for charity after a young man and his dad hosted their very own golf tournament.
Ryan Tozer, and his father, Nigel had had the idea to organise a competition with all proceeds in aid of the Stroke Association, a cause very close to their heart.
With 2025 marking the 10th anniversary Nigel’s mother, Mary, passing from a stroke, the event was an important occasion for the pair, acting as a fitting way for the family and community to honour Mary’s legacy.
Despite a setback due to poor weather, the pair pushed on and reorganised the event.
Finally, on September 13, the big day was here, with golfers from across the area coming together at Launceston Golf Club for the chance to win prizes, show their skills and raise money for a good cause.
With around 30 teams entering, the event raised an impressive £4,225 for the Stroke Association.
The Stroke Association provides lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.
Its stroke support is tailored to tens of thousands of stroke survivors each year. This support includes one-to-one and group support, vital scientific research into stroke prevention, acute treatment and recovery.
A spokesperson from the charity said: “Providing support after a stroke is a team effort. It takes the determination of stroke survivors and carers, the generosity of supporters and the dedication of the healthcare and research communities.”
Sarah Tozer, Ryan’s mother said: “Ryan and his dad have put a huge amount of effort into this event to make it such a success. I’m very proud of them both. The generosity of the sponsors and donors has been amazing with players coming from many different areas of the South West to support them. Huge thanks to everyone involved, Launceston Golf Club and of course to Ryan and Nigel.”
