This year’s Week St Mary Revel took place on Saturday, September 21.

The harvest queen, Mia Luxton, was led through the main street of Week St Mary by the musicians and dancers of Lodestone Border Morris.

Her pretty dress was matched by the burgundy silk capes of her attendants, Nieve Booker and Tori Horrell. Her page boy and crown bearer, Zac Horrell was resplendent in wing collar and burgundy cravat and they all travelled in style on a float decorated in a harvest style.

The Citizen of the Year this year is Lesley Booker who rode in an open-topped Mercedes, chauffeured by Mr Francis Rowe.

The crowning of the harvest queen ceremony was conducted by the Rev David Barnes at his first Revel since moving to Week St Mary in the summer and the crowd was enthusiastic in their welcome for the new village celebrities.

Mr Len Davies presented Lesley Booker with Citizen of the Year cup and sash and Mrs Booker said that she was happy to accept but was only one of many people who helped to keep the community alive and that she hoped that their example would inspire younger community members to carry the spirit of Week St Mary forward into an even brighter future.

After the crowning, everyone retired to the parish hall where there were stalls and games and dancing from the morris dancers who gave a lively performance in a country style, also encouraging onlookers to join in.

The winner of the treasure hunt sponsored by David Martin was Mrs Jeanette Turner, the massive bear named Lewis, was won by Lucy Satchell and the weight of the sheep was 87 pounds guessed by Peter Coulson.

Harry Banks was the champion at hoopla, gaining 60 points as the overall winner.

The under 5 fancy dress winners — 1, Ronnie Walole; 2, Delphie Ellis; 3, Delilah Lauder. 5 to 12 fancy dress winners – 1, Abi Morrison; 2, Annabelle Shipton Goode; 3, Pamela Morrison. Adults — 1, Kay Parry. Well done certificates went to Hannah Lauder and Lowenna Shipton-Goode.

After the merriment of the Revel Fair, Lodestone Border Morris led everyone to the chapel where a huge tea had been prepared to be enjoyed by all.
