WORKS have been carried out to repair a leaking bridge over the A30 in Launceston.

National Highways have undertaken work to maintain a vital bridge which provides access over one of the region’s busiest roads, after it sustained ‘water ingress’.

Since Monday, August 3, the organisation responsible for the nations road network, has installed two-way traffic lights to facilitate improvements.

A spokesperson from National Highways explained: “We’re carrying out repairs to the Tavistock Road bridge, including waterproofing and surfacing, under two-way traffic signals.

“The scheme started on Monday and is anticipated to complete overnight on the Friday, with the signals removed by 6am on Saturday (August 8).”

Despite the disruption caused by the work, for some the primary concern has been about the bridge’s safety, with the suggestion of water, leaking, and the potential risk of damage over a main road raising alarm.

However, thanks to inspections and surveys carried out earlier in the year National Highways hopes that the issues will be remedied by the works completed this week.
