Club Finals — Friday, August 30, Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1
THE club competition finals were played a couple of weekends ago.
The weather was a little mixed over the weekend with some hot sunshine and some cool cloudy weather, but it stayed dry for all the matches except for Saturday when the start was delayed a little by rain, which quickly cleared.
There was some excellent bowling and some nailbiting finishes to make great entertainment for those watching, all rounded off with a fantastic BBQ on Sunday.
President Brian Wonnacott thanked competition secretary Barbara Phoenix for organising the matches and all those who had helped in any way throughout the event.
He thanked Sue Plumstead and Tricia Dixon for their work in the kitchen and all those who had provided food as well as thanking Bruce French for his sterling work barbecuing all the meats with the help of Alan Wilson. Anne and Richard Cadd had donated a bottle of whisky for a draw which raised £58 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance and was won by Dave Heckbert.
Brian then introduced Bowls Cornwall immediate past president Peter Prynne, who attended especially to present Sid Jones with his 80th birthday badge on behalf of the county.

BARBARA Phoenix played the county quarter-final of the Kernow Cup at Bodmin, winning a very close game against C Dudley (Looe).
However she narrowly lost to M Cassidy (Porthleven) in the last four.
Whyte Rickard at Grampound — Monday, August 19 and Tuesday, August 20
AFTER wins over teams from Lostwithiel, Liskeard and Kensey Vale they were knocked out by a team from Veryan.

IT’S been a great couple weeks for Kensey Vale’s ladies section.
They recently won the Group Two Date League before taking part in the County Finals yesterday (September 11) while on the individual front, Marion Bartlett was the winner of the County Two Wood Singles at Newquay Trenance on Saturday, September 7.
