Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Five, Six and Seven East round-up – Saturday, May 9
DAN Pethick wrote his name even further into Gunnislake Cricket Club’s record books on Saturday with a remarkable 225 at Bugle in Division Five East.
On a small ground at Sandy Lane, the opener hammered 26 sixes and 12 fours as Gunni racked up a massive 391-8 in their 40 overs. He and Paul Hollow (101) put on a stand of 281.
Bugle were then dismissed for just 125, skipper Dinesh Thirupuvanarajah (4-54) and newcomer Dean Davies (4-32) sharing eight wickets.Elsewhere in the division, Holsworthy Seconds were beaten by promotion hopefuls Buckland Monachorum despite opening bowlers Guy Beagley (2-28) and Lewis Chidley (4-31) sharing six wickets as the visitors rallied to 182 all out.
That was far too many for the Devonians who were bundled out for just 99, number seven Nick Ward’s 26 the best of them.
Luckett Seconds were thrashed by 152 runs at promotion-hopefuls Menheniot-Looe Seconds.
The hosts racked up 232-7 despite braces for Martin Budden (2-57) and Gareth Clements (2-34), before dismissing Luckett for just 80, nobody making more than Stephen Brown’s 28.
Launceston Seconds secured a solid victory at home to Pencarrow with debutant Tyler Westlake to the fore.
He made 60 from number three in their 177-7 which was boosted by contributions from Josh Theobald (40) and Peter West (21no).
That proved enough as Pencarrow replied with 141-6, West taking 2-36.
Emma Barnes produced the remarkable figures of 9-62 from her 10 overs in South Petherwin Seconds’ defeat at their St Neot counterparts in Division Six East.
With the hosts having got off to a flyer at 132-0, Barnes almost single-handedly kept them in the contest with eight of her wickets being bowled.
Chasing 256, Petherwin finished on 140-3, opener Nick Gerry carrying his bat for 94, while James Cawsey (39) and skipper Richard Watson (51) chipped in.
Bude Seconds’ excellent start continued with a nine-wicket thrashing of their St Minver counterparts who played with 10.
Mark Whitefield produced the remarkable figures of 8-37 from 9.4 overs as the Seasiders were left with a chase of just 75.
Number three Derek Piper them thrashed an unbeaten 51 as the job was done in just 13.3 overs.
Tintagel Seconds picked up 16 points in their victory at Grampound Road Thirds.
The hosts knocked up 206-3 with opener Phoenix Rautenbach batting through for 92, but that was nowhere near enough as Joe Parsons was promoted up the order and preceded to wallop 130 not out as they walked off with victory inside 28 overs. Dan Jones (41) provided good support from number three.
Werrington Fourths’ young side were soundly beaten at a St Stephen Seconds side who racked up 236-7 from their 40 overs. Emma Horrell (3-34) and Tilly Paynter (2-27) shared five of the wickets before Gareth Cox’s 72 not out from just 52 balls got the visitors up to 175-6.
In the bottom division, both Launceston Thirds and their Luckett counterparts had a tough afternoon.
Launceston were dismissed for just 72 at Buckland Monachorum Seconds – only Adil Raza (16) and Andrew Baker (12) reaching double figures, and were then beaten by 10 wickets.
Luckett Thirds were all out for just 22 by their Roche counterparts but did get a couple of breakthroughs through Dave Colwill and Martin Budge.
