HOLSWORTHY made it two wins from two last Wednesday night in the North Devon T20 Cup fter shocking ECB Devon Premier League outfit North Devon by six runs at Stanhope Park.

The Trees had lost by 110 runs at Bude in their previous outing, but found a timely confidence boost against a club who included several first teamers.

Holsworthy won the toss and chose to bat with the top three of Guy Beagley (10), Aiden Gerry (21) and Rory Piper (13) all making starts without kicking on.

Twenty-eight extras helped their case and with skipper Ryan Walter (24), Chris Pomeroy (30) and Adam Lovejoy (17) chipping in they reached a highly-competitive 152-8.

Holsworthy’s inexperienced seam attack then showed the potential they have as North Devon started poorly.

Of the top six, nobody made more than James Tyson’s 15 as Adam Lovejoy (2-23) and Daniel Lucas (2-23) got to work.

Back came the Instow outfit, led by Tom Popham’s 34 which included four huge sixes, while Jed Foster (19) and wicket-keeper Richard Screech (15no) ensured the final over started with the visitors needing seven, but Aiden Gerry held his nerve to bowl Simon Wright with the first ball. Lewis Chidley took 3-23.

Elsewhere around the club, Sunday saw both the North Devon League team and ladies’ softball sides in action.

The ladies visited Tavistock in the Devon Dartmoor Division and lost by 32 runs. They scored 78-8 from their 16 overs with five runs deducted for every wicket lost for a net score of 238, while Tavistock ended on 85-3 for a net score of 270.

The Sunday side racked up 337-7 against visiting Victoria Park with Aussie Noah Pigdon hammering 124 not out from 63 balls after Sam Stacey’s rapid 67.

The Bideford visitors were dismissed for 187 with Daniel Lucas (3-22) the pick of the bowlers.
