Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three and Four East round-up – Saturday, May 9
RELEGATED St Minver were beaten by seven wickets at promoted St Blazey Seconds on Saturday despite a ton from Ben Hawken.
The opener – one of the best batsman outside of the top two divisions – struck 15 fours in his 104 as they reached 205-6.
However, the hosts knocked it off with ease as Ryan Bate batted through for 104 himself.
South Petherwin won a low-scoring game at home to Roche Seconds by three wickets.
It was all plain sailing for the hosts to begin with as wickets fell at regular intervals in the away side’s innings as they mustered just 127 all out.
Cornwall Over 60s all-rounder Paul Clements took 4-26, while Adam Creasey (2-12) and Adrian Clements (2-19) also tucked in.
The chase was a difficult one as Petherwin found themselves 19-3, but thirties from Sam Pengelly (31) and Creasey (39) plus bits and pieces from the rest got the job done.
Launceston are off the mark in Division Four with a five-wicket victory at Wadebridge Thirds.
An excellent bowling performance, led by Shane Davey (3-17) and Matthew Bloomfield (3-26), saw the hosts dismissed for just 141.
The chase was far from straightforward, but having slipped to 80-4 with Kevin Worth out for a rapid 31, they got home thanks to James Dawe’s 29 not out with support from Danny Sloman and David Cox.
In the same division, Dan Warring made a superb 104, but Werrington Thirds were edged out by St Neot at Ladycross.
The visitors racked up 255-6 thanks to Toby Haley’s 107, and when the home side were 117-7, it looked to be game over.
Step forward Warring and young Sam Uglow (40no) who were within 13 runs of victory when Warring was caught with five balls remaining having smashed 15 fours and two sixes in his 68-ball knock.
