SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST
Hayle 2 Bude Town 3
THE Seasiders bounced back from successive defeats to win a thriller at Hayle on Saturday.
The promoted Greens started the better down the hill and got their reward 20 minutes in via Aaron Hicks’ tidy finish. But Bude gradually worked their way back into the contest and levelled 10 minutes before the break. Piran Friend was brought down and striker Ray Spear’s swerving free-kick went in from 20 yards.
The visitors’ back four of Ruan Tape, James Wheeler, Harry Hopcroft and Fin Haste had to deal with plenty of long balls, and their was controversy just before half-time when the referee only yellow-carded a Hayle defender despite being the last man.
Bude started the second half brightly, keeping hold of the ball and looking for openings, and a neat ball through to Jake Woodland saw keeper Caleb Hendy come out and bring him down for a penalty that Spear expertly dispatched into the bottom left corner.
Hayle were still in the game and looked dangerous in possession, but the Seasiders grabbed a third as Dylan Morgan back-healed the ball into the channel for fellow sub Tega Olaosebikan to fire home into the far corner.
A nervous last couple of minutes followed as Hayle grabbed a late second goal with a sweet strike from Joseph Day past Leam Powell from the edge of the box, but with time running out, Bude held on.
Reflecting on the encounter, boss Steve Hacket said: “It was a really determined performance with moments of quality football on show against a Hayle side who pushed us all the way. It was also great to see so many of our supporters down there.”
