SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST
Camelford 3 Dobwalls 0
CAMELFORD returned to winning ways as they saw off Dobwalls 3-0 at Trefrew Park.
The Camels had been beaten 1-0 in their last three games against Liskeard, Penzance and Callington, but despite being far from their best, proved too strong for their new-look visitors whose players have been coming to terms with the rigours of Step Six football, following a big summer overhaul.
Camelford named a similar side to usual and started brightly.
Key man Ryan Downing hit the inside of the post with a free-kick before being sent through one-on-one. However, he could only place a shot narrowly wide.
But a goal was coming and the Camels went in front on the half-hour mark.
Good play by Dan Hocking, Downing and Cam Bidgood ended with the latter’s cross from the right being put in by an unfortunate defender.
The second half started with Camelford going for the all-important second and it arrived by the hour as Bidgood’s corner from the right was prodded in by midfielder Ross Beare.
Dobwalls had a bit more of a threat about them in the second half with the wind at their backs, but it was 3-0 late on when Downing’s close-range shot hit the keeper and went in.
Reflecting on the afternoon, Camels assistant boss Dan Balsdon said: “I always felt like we were in control as although Dobwalls huffed and puffed, they didn’t really hurt us.
“I don’t think we were at our best, but it was great to get three points, a clean sheet and to get back to winning ways.”
