SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Dobwalls 1 Camelford 3

RYAN Downing netted twice as the Camels moved level with fourth-placed Penzance with a 3-1 victory at bottom side Dobwalls.

Camelford had seen off neighbours Wadebridge Town on Boxing Day and boss Bobby Hopkinson made just one change as veteran striker Mark Gusterson was unavailable and replaced by youngster Joseph Parr.

Straight from kick-off the visitors got on top, but inside three minutes were behind as a long ball wasn’t dealt with and a home attacker was brought down, allowing Kieran Owen to fire a penalty past Cory Harvey.

The Camels were awarded a spot-kick of their own in the 10th minute as Tom Crowe was fouled inside the box. However, keeper Wayne Hoole guessed the right way to deny Ryan Downing.

Five minutes later it was 1-1 as Downing redeemed himself, firing in from a tight angle with the aid of a deflection.

Camelford went close before the break when man-of-the-match Liam Higgins struck the near-post, but inside 10 minutes of the second half it was all but game over.

On 50 minutes, excellent play from Jacob Ham and Parr ended with the latter finding Downing inside the box who poked in from close-range.

Five minutes later it was midfielder Kenley Dyson that grabbed his first of the season, firing into the roof of the net from 12 yards.

The home side had the odd foray forward, however the Camels were more than comfortable as they recorded an 11th win of the season.

They are next in league action on Friday night when they host third-placed Callington Town (7.30pm).
