CONFIDENCE is high amongst the young footballers from Duchy College, after an impressive start to the season that saw them picking up back-to-back wins.
The group, who are all studying on the Plymouth Argyle Education Programme (PAFE) based at Stoke Climsland, have played local rivals Truro College twice in the league and once in the cup, winning all three matches.
Team Lead for Sport at Duchy College, Darren Evans, said: “The team have started to build up the pace this season already with three wins from three games. It’s great to see the team and coaches so enthusiastic about not only the football but also their studies. There is much learning beyond the classroom going on with this group and the students are developing extremely well; we have a good foundation to build on for the future."
The Football Education Programme covers all aspects of the professional game from nutrition and fitness to injury analysis and coaching. The students will also receive training sessions from a Plymouth Argyle coaches and will be able to further develop their skills by undertaking work experience at Argyle’s Home Park stadium.
Darren continues: “All credit to Truro, the cup game was much tougher, however the shape and organisation from the Duchy PAFE lads proved the difference and two pieces of class won the game for us, the solo run for the awarded penalty and a solid foundation defensively. This is football sometimes, both aspects of the game are important and the players are starting to realise this now. Three wins from three is fantastic but they must continue to learn and listen.”
