THERE was disappointment for both Bude Town and Launceston on Saturday in the South West Peninsula League Premier West division.
Bude – remarkably playing their final home game of the season by March 7 before six away games to finish the season, welcomed a Falmouth Town Reserves side who have impressed since promotion and started the day sixth, one place above the North Cornwall outfit.
However, it was Bude who dominated the first half with five big chances before Evan Tresidder’s 30-yard rocket won it 10 minutes before half-time.
Earlier, Ollie Cleave shot straight at the keeper and striker Tornado Bello had a header cleared off the line before Dylan Morgan remarkably screwed the follow-up wide from six yards.
Cleave then turned on the halfway line and set Piran Friend away, only for the winger to send a shot wide, before the former headed over from inside the six-yard box from a Harrison Swatton corner.
After the break, Bude found it far tougher even though Liam Uren was red-carded just before the hour for a two-footed lunge on Friend.
With 15 to play, the hosts saw Jake Woodland have a header cleared off the line, while there was still time for Bello to find the side-netting and Cleave have a shot tipped around the post.
Ty Rowe did have to make a smart save from the advancing Tresidder late on, but it didn’t matter.
Down at Millbrook, Launceston’s difficult season continued as they were beaten 1-0.
The visitors were second best in the opening 45 minutes and were made to pay shortly after the restart as Will Larsen converted a penalty, and although the Clarets belatedly improved, helped by the introduction of sub Jack Stephens, they couldn’t force a point.
Bude are the visitors to Millbrook on Saturday, while Launceston entertain fellow strugglers St Day.
