North Devon Football League latest round-up – Saturday, November 8

MORWENSTOW are only out of the bottom three on goal difference in the Premier Division after losing a seven-goal thriller at home to Fremington Reserves on Saturday.

The Greens are in a state of transition, not helped by losing influential attacker Jake Gilbert on a full-time basis to Bude Town, but roared into a three-goal lead at the break via Michael Dolan, Callum Rogers and Ritchie Armstrong.

However, Fremington flew out of the traps after the break and won it 4-3 which included a brace from Ashton Sims.

Morwenstow’s mood wouldn’t have been helped by wins for two sides below them.

Hartland moved level with the Greens with two games in-hand following a 2-1 success at AFC Dumnonii, while Woolsery are within three points after seeing off Appledore Lions 3-1 at home.

Holsworthy Reserves, who had the weekend off and are a point clear of the bottom three, host league leaders Braunton on Saturday, while Morwenstow visit Boca Seniors Reserves.

Both Post area sides in the Senior Division enjoyed fine results on Saturday.

League leaders Bradworthy continued on their merry way with a 3-0 victory at Kingsley Park as attackers Tudor Placinta and Niall Slade both got on the scoresheet, as did sub Tai Wonnacott.

Shebbear put their recent poor form behind them with a 2-0 home success over mid-table Lynton.

The Tangerines have struggled to get reward for some decent performances, but moved three points clear of third bottom Braunton Reserves.

Matthew Facey headed the hosts in front just before half-time from Kyle Pennington’s long throw.

The second goal was a moment of magic from Stuart Quance as a lofted ball found him some 35 yards out. His volley hit the post and then the goalkeeper before going in.

Shebbear, who had Shaun Sluggett filling in in goal, ensured he was rarely troubled as they secured a third league win of the season before next Saturday’s trip to Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves. Bradworthy make the long trip up to Lynton at the same time.

The six games in third-tier (Intermediate One) saw a remarkable 42 goals at an average of seven a game.

Two of the three met at Holsworthy as the home side’s third team welcomed high-flying Putford.

It was the visitors who ran out 5-2 winners having led 3-1 at the break.

Arran Brooks and Matthew Priest were both at the double for the villagers who also Jamie Hooper net.

Holsworthy, who remain in mid-table, replied through Dean Holness and Alex Parker.

Morwenstow Reserves were always likely to have a tough afternoon at a Langtree Lions side who had picked up 28 points from a possible 30, and the hosts proved too strong in a 5-0 victory with all of the goals coming in the first half.

Danny Jenkins’ hat-trick was added to by Charles Harding’s brace as they sit nine points clear of nearest challengers Kingsley Wizards who have two games in-hand.

This Saturday sees Holsworthy welcome a Morwenstow side who also arrive on nine points from seven outings, while Putford make the near four-hour round trip to Kingsbridge and Kellaton United in the last 32 of the Devon Intermediate Cup (2.15pm).
