THE winter weather proved to be the big winner last weekend with a number of games across the local football scene falling foul to the torrential downpours.

Godolphin Atlantic 1
Launceston 3
LAUNCESTON withstood everything thrown at them in the way of unavailability, injury and dreadful weather to record another outstanding away victory at a windswept Godolphin Atlantic last Saturday.
Arriving in Newquay without injured skipper Lee Rundle, as well as regular defensive starters Josh McCabe and Dan Metherall, Clarets boss Gary Jeffery was forced into a defensive reshuffle, which saw midfielders Jack Alexander and Liam Tilley move into the back four.
The Clarets then got off to the worst possible start when, inside the first minute, a mistimed tackle by George Birkbeck was penalised by the referee. Phil Lowry stepped up to tuck away the resultant penalty and give Godolphin the lead.
But far from feeling sorry for themselves, Launceston moved smoothly forward to dominate the game. After 16 minutes Callum Thompson was brought down by the keeper for a clear penalty, comfortably converted by Sam Davey.
Chances came and went but in the 35th minute the Clarets were dealt a body-blow when keeper Cory Harvey was forced off with an ankle injury following a corner. Outfield substitute Chris Head bravely volunteered to take over goalkeeping duties and the Clarets made it safely through to half-time, despite 11 added minutes following Harvey’s injury.
Launceston completely bossed the second-half, despite missing a number of players. Ruben Kane cleverly played Thompson through to put the Clarets 2-1 up after 48 minutes, while Tilley and Birkbeck superbly protected their stop-gap keeper, to such a degree that Head, visibly warming to his unfamiliar role, barely had a save to make.
The last few minutes saw Godolphin’s Ollie Pinnell collect a second yellow card before substitute Sam Watts sent Davey clear. Launceston’s top scorer finished neatly to make the final score 3-1 and clinch another three hard-earned points.
The Clarets are back in action on Saturday when they welcome Torpoint Athletic to Pennygillam (3pm).
St Austell 4
Callington Town 0
ST?AUSTELL?eased past Callington Town in Dan Jefferis’ second match in charge of the visitors.
The Lilywhites eased into a 3-0 lead before the break thanks to Martin Giles and Liam Eddy’s double, the second of which was a superb run and shot from 15-yards.
Callington kept the home side quiet for most of the second-half but couldn’t keep Eddy quiet as he scored his hat-trick ten minutes from time.
Callington are in action at home on Saturday (3pm) when they take on in-form Falmouth Town at Ginsters Marshfield Parc.

MATT Drummond’s winner ten minutes from time ensured that Bude are still without a league win.
The Seasiders again put in a much improved performance and kept the high-flying visitors out as the game was goalless at half-time.
However, the visitors went in front through Matt Drummond.
To Bude’s credit, they fought back and equalised through a Billy Hopcroft penalty.
But Drummond won it late on following a corner.
