Camelford 2 Dobwalls 1
CAMELFORD kept up their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 success over visiting Dobwalls on Saturday.
The Camels beat new boys St Mawgan 2-0 on Tuesday night in their opener thanks to goals from Kenley Dyson and Liam Higgins, a result which came after the visitors started the better.
Boss Bobby Hopkinson was back for Saturday and saw his side take a 14th minute lead. A long pass from goalkeeper Cory Harvey found winger Liam Higgins out on the left and he cut inside while beating two players before finding the far corner from 15 yards.
It was 2-0 shortly after as Harvey’s diagonal went to Higgins who burst into the box before being tripped. Up stepped Kyle Flew to send the keeper the wrong way.
Higgins soon went off with a hamstring problem, and although Dobwalls had some phases of play they halved the deficit shortly before half-time when Elian Causon swept in from 10 yards after the Camels failed to deal with a free-kick.
Camelford dominated large spells of the ball after the break, but chances were at a premium at both ends as it remained 2-1.
Hopkinson said: “I gave the boys a bit of a talking to at half-time, and after the break we were much better, although we didn’t really create much.
“Losing Liam was a massive blow, but other players now have to step up starting with Bude away on Saturday.
“We have Callington the week after, so if we can win on Saturday we head into that game in a really strong position.”
