St Piran League East round-up

LAUNCESTON Reserves thrashed their Callington Town counterparts 5-0 to continue their superb recent form.

Goals from Scott Sanders and Gareth Jones made it 2-0 at the break before the Clarets added three more after the break through Cameron Heard’s double, the first of which came directly from a corner, and striker Mark Elvidge.

Heard felt he should have had a hat-trick but referee Steve Nute and the linesman deemed his effort not to have crossed the line.

Tom Denford’s double helped in-form Morwenstow to a comfortable victory as they beat Liskeard Athletic Reserves 3-0.

The home side took the lead in the first-half after Denford found space in a crowded box and managed to place the loose ball into the bottom left corner.

Despite the travelling team coming out of the blocks quickly and determined to level the scores, they were unable to breach the Greens’ defence and rarely troubled home goalkeeper Matt Mansbridge.

The second score came at the right time for the North Cornwall outfit, as Norman Foster held the ball up well and gave it to the onrushing Denford, who slalomed past two defenders to work an opening and once again found the back of the net.

Following a Liskeard player receiving his second yellow for a bad tackle and another being sin-binned in the last ten minutes, the game fell away for the visitors.

Playing against nine men and having plenty of space on the field, skipper William Bryant put the final nail in the coffin with five minutes to go as he ran the majority of the pitch to poke home an inviting cross from Gavin Carter.

Bude Town failed to build on their 2-1 victory over Torpoint Athletic as they lost by the same score to Sticker Reserves at Broadclose Park.

The visitors, who haven’t won since the autumn, went 2-0 up before half-time, and although the prolific Scott Percy pulled one back, Sticker held on.

RRL East Cornwall Premier League

round-up

NORTH Petherwin failed to raise a side for their trip to Foxhole Stars on Saturday.

The Badgers are struggling for numbers, and with the step-up to the East Cornwall League from Duchy Three (where their reserves play) being so great, tough times could await.

Elsewhere, St Teath fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Gerrans and St Mawes United. St Minver’s trip to Looe Town was called off due to the weather.
