LAUNCESTON joint boss Simon Minett admitted their performance ‘wasn’t good enough all over the pitch’ after Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing at Falmouth Town Reserves in South West Peninsula League Premier West.
The Clarets found themselves out of the game inside eight minutes as the league new boys ran riot to lead 3-0 through a Sam Buckley brace and another from William Harding.
Although they eventually kept the score down to five, it is worrying times for the Pennygillam outfit who have yet to win in six starts.
Minett told the Post: “It was simply not good enough, especially with the standards the lads set themselves in the earlier games.
“We actually had positive warm-up, but regardless of decisions which we felt two were clearly offside to start with, you can't go 3-0 down inside 10 minutes. It gives you a mountain to climb away from home. It wasn't good enough all over the pitch and we have to improve.”
Minett admits he and joint head coach Neil Price have some thinking to do, but also wants their new-look team to stand up.
He said: “It has to start at training on Wednesday (tonight). It’s a time to dig deep, reflect on what we need to tweak, be it formation or personal, and the lads have to question themselves too.
“Do they deserve to be playing at this club which does everything right for them and do they want to stand up and fight?
“But accountability all over is required for sure, so we’ll see what happens.”
Launceston started well, earning an opening day draw at high-flying Holsworthy, as well as securing a point with Millbrook. They also played well in a 3-2 defeat at Wadebridge Town, but Minett, who was in charge at Bodmin last term, knows they need three points as soon as possible, starting with Saturday’s trip to mid-table Sticker (3pm).
He said: “We were slightly unfortunate not to have got a victory earlier on in the season, but now it's about getting that first win registered and pushing on.
“Sticker is a tough place to go and I’ve worked with a few of their players. They are a decent group and it will be tough game. At the same time, I feel we have a good group here, so if we perform to the standards we demand as a management team then there’s no reason why we can’t come away with a positive result. Hopefully, it will be a good game for the spectators too.”
